Steps To Ensure Your Canon Printer Has Updated Print Drivers

Your workflow is largely dependent on your printer’s efficiency. This is why it is important to know what you can do if it stops working. Although the “Your printer is in an error state” message can be frustrating, there are 8 ways to fix it.

Why is my printer not working?

Your printer may send an error message for a variety of reasons. You could have a problem with the printer’s drive or software, or there may be an error message from your printing in error state.

Below are some troubleshooting tips to help you determine the cause of your printer’s problems and how to fix them.

8 Steps to Fix Your Printer in an Error

There are eight things that you can do to eliminate the “printer is in error state” warning. These steps work with HP, Canon printers, Brother, Epson, and Lexmark printers.

1. Verify Printer and Computer Connections

As easy as it may sound, problems with the physical connection between the printer and computer often go unnoticed.

The cord must be in good shape.

To make sure your printer can be recognized from your computer wirelessly, navigate to Settings. (Settings > Devices>>Add printer or scanner). You must ensure that the printer you selected is correct and that the status reads “Online”.

2. Be sure to load the paper tray

Your printer might have problems if there isn’t any paper in the tray after you have sent a print job to it.

You can lift the tray to check for paper jams. You can lift the tray with a stack of paper and then load it completely. Then, resend the print job.

3. Check Ink Cartridges

Just like with paper, printers require the right ink cartridges to print. Check the instruction manual for your printer to make sure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with that model.

Also, ensure that the ink cartridges are full. Although your printer should inform you when cartridges become low, it is possible that the “error state notification” was missed.

You should ensure that your printer is capable of handling any paper stock you may load (e.g construction paper).

1. Restart the Printer and Computer

If you get the error message “error state” after all of the above, but your printer and computer still don’t seem to be working, restart them.

For the printer to turn on, hold down the power button and press it until the printer turns off. After 15 seconds, unplug your printer’s cord from the wall. Some brands suggest that you hold the power button down for 15 seconds even though it isn’t plugged. Then plug the power cord into printer is in error state

2. Confirm Printer Online

If the printer is offline and you attempt to print a job, an “error message” message will appear on your screen. A majority of printers can also be set to “Use Printer Offline”, which prevents the printer from connecting with the computer. Some printers also have a “Sleep Mode”, which allows them to appear offline.

Click on Settings > Devices> Printers & Scanners. Then click on the printer. Then click ‘Open queue’ and then choose your printer from that menu. Make sure that you have not unchecked ‘Use printer offline

You should also connect the printer to the same WiFi as your PC.

1. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

If none of the options above work, you may need the printer drivers updated or reinstalled. To improve printer performance, manufacturers regularly release updated drivers. Reinstalling printer drivers is not difficult.

Navigate to Device Manager. Click or hold the right-click button on your printer. Next, click or press the ‘Update driver software’ button.

If none of the options above are possible, click on ‘Uninstall and restart your computer. After your computer has turned back on, navigate to that same area and click “Install.”

2. Reset Print Spooler

The print spooler allows you to manage print jobs sent from your computer. When too many jobs are sent quickly to the printer’s printer, the print spooler can get jammed. This is often an issue for shared printers.

Task Manager can be used to reset your print queue. Navigate to the Services tab. Locate the “Spooler” service, right-click, and then press Restart. If restarting the computer is impossible, click on the button to turn the spooler off. Wait 30 seconds before turning it back on.

3. Updating Printer Firmware

If your printer is running an older version and you think it needs to be updated, you can find the latest firmware on the printer manufacturer’s website.

You can find the firmware information on the printer’s website. This will ensure that you have the correct firmware. Minor problems such as error messages and printer malfunctions can be fixed by updating the firmware.

How to Fix HP Printer Errors

To troubleshoot an HP printer in error, you can manually restart it. After unplugging the printer’s cord, turn it off and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect everything and turn the printer on.

If problems persist, you may ask HP community members or professionals to address them on the Help Page.
